Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)
Our Core Principles
At Cricket Valley Energy Center (CVEC), our vision is to responsibly and reliably produce electricity for 1 million homes. Every choice the team at CVEC makes in our operations is informed by four core principles:
- Safety
- Ethics
- Environmental Responsibility
- Community Involvement
Safety
The CVEC team’s highest priority is safety. The CVEC facility meets or exceeds all of the stringent State and Federal safety regulations for electrical generation facilities. The CVEC Comprehensive Site and Safety Plan coordinates with local law enforcement and fire departments to detail the safety procedures, training and testing that keeps facility staff and our neighbors safe.
Ethics
CVEC is operated with transparency and honesty. CVEC’s employees use ethical standards in all factors of decision-making and operations. The CVEC team is committed to transparency about annual emissions and natural resource usage.
Environmental Responsibility
CVEC is among the most efficient electricity producers in New York. The CVEC facility contains state-of-the-art technologies that reduce any potential effects on local air quality and natural resources. Additionally, the CVEC team maintains an air quality monitoring station in continuous operation at Dover High School. Data from the station is carefully monitored, and to date, has revealed no negative air quality effects on the Dover community. To remain in compliance with air quality standards, the Title V Air Pollution Control Permit for CVEC is currently being renewed. Please visit the Permitting page to learn more.
We support New York State’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act goals to lower emissions in the electric sector and are developing our own transition strategies to reach zero net carbon emissions at CVEC by 2040. As a combined-cycle natural gas turbine (CCGT) facility, CVEC currently provides electricity with just one-third of the emissions compared to traditional coal plants. CVEC’s technology also captures and reuses steam in power generation, conserving natural resources and minimizing our environmental footprint. Please visit the Responsibly and Reliably Powering New York page to learn more.

Community Involvement
The CVEC team invests in Dover and Dutchess County. For over a decade, the CVEC team has supported a vibrant future in Dover, investing in initiatives with the Town Recreation Department, Dover High School, and the Dover Educational Enrichment Program (DEEP), among others. Through economic and community benefits, the CVEC team contributes millions in tax revenue to the Dover School System, the town, Dutchess County, and New York State.
The team at CVEC regularly partners with local environmental, community, recreation, and school groups. Here are a few of the CVEC team’s 2024 community projects:
- Monthly food bank volunteering with the Center of Compassion and a donation of a new refrigeration system
- Dover Little League team sponsorship
- Donation of ~1,800 White Pine tree saplings to the Dover School District for Earth Day
- Adopt-a-Highway program on Route 22
- $10,000 Donation to the Dover Educational Enrichment Program (DEEP) for school enrichment opportunities
